NEW BRIDLEWAY CONSTRUCTION NEAR SHEFFIELD

A new bridleway near Sheffield is being constructed under the "Connect 2" national scheme managed by SUSTRANS, as a result of a public vote on television for funds put up by the National Lottery. The scheme is the creation of a brand new public bridleway which when finished will provide a safe off-road route for cyclists, horseriders & pedestrians between the suburb of Halfway in Sheffield with the town of Killamarsh in NE Derbyshire.   This route will run parallel with a busy & narrow main road which is currently the only link between the two communities. Halfway is the terminus of the Supertram network in Sheffield & Killamarsh is a dormitory town for Sheffield & Chesterfield. It requires two new multi-user bridges. One across the railway line between Sheffield & Chesterfield, the other across the river Rother. This bridleway is just one of the many Connect 2 schemes up & down the country. Read the report with photographs of the construction work going on near Sheffield.

PNFS HOLDS THE FORT AGAINST WIND TURBINES

In line with our policy on wind turbines and at the request of local inhabitants, the Society submitted a letter of objection to Warrington Borough Council regarding a proposed single turbine at Croft. It is good to report that Warrington BC have rejected the application on two counts  - that  of noise emission, but principally that the local benefits of such a turbine (to the farmer applicant) are substantially outweighed by the adverse effects on the local population and users of the two nearby footpaths (site shown below). Fifty eight local people objected and their co-ordinator believes our submission as a footpath organization was of considerable importance. Read a copy of our submission
