General News, April 2007

Saddleworth 55, another year another protest - eleven members met at Diggle, Saddleworth to be led on a 10 mile walk by Martin Riley, our Inspector for the area.

The main purpose was to repeat the section of last year's walk to assert our rights on Saddleworth 55 through Upper Castleshaw Farm. We walked the definitive line through the farm, despite it being obstructed with every item of refuse known to man; and some unknown! We also walked a route through the farm identified by Oldham PROW personnel thought suitable as a diversion - we fully agreed with that assessment and it is now incumbent on the Authority to find the ways and means to legitimize this route.

Arrangements were made for two Oldham newspaper reporters and photographers to be present to ensure maximum coverage of this ongoing saga, to make the public aware of PNFS's determination to bring about a conclusion satisfactory to walkers.

Membership continues to climb –
there has been a most rewarding surge over the last Quarter from 1080 to 1260. However, there is no resting on laurels to be done! We must continue to take every opportunity to encourage new members and we must not forget our Affiliated Societies, they are very important to us as well.
