Peak & Northern Footpaths Society (est.1894)

Parish Councils

Parish councils interested in protecting, promoting and improving the public rights of way in their areas have available to them a wide range of powers which put them in a strong position to maintain this precious heritage. Much of this work can still be done even at a time of budget restraint and cuts in public expenditure. PNFS have produced a leaflet and a booklet which set out the powers available parish councils with respect to Footpath Law. They can be downloaded via theses links Leaflet Booklet.

A number of Parish Councils are affiliated to the society. Several of them have already benefited from PNFS 'Improvements' funding. Find out about the society's improvement policy and how to obtain funding HERE and HERE.
