How we work

The Team at Taylor House
The Society has always operated on a voluntary basis so everyone who volunteers gives up their time freely and we are happy to accommodate as much or as little time as people can spare.

We are based at Taylor House in Stockport and are fortunate to own the premises. Within these premises all the central functions are carried out including assessing, administration, fault reporting, signposts and the running of the Society. We also keep the Society’s valuable archive of all footpath related matters and use the garage as a workshop for the repair of existing and the preparation of new signposts ready for planting.

We get involved in every aspect of protecting and developing the footpath network. To enable us to that we have teams of people based in Taylor House covering,

Consultations and Orders  Signpost Maintenance  New Signposts
Faults Database Correspondence  Administration
Computer records Footpath Archive Legal matters

We are a prescribed organisation for the geographical area that we cover and therefore have to be consulted regarding any changes to the footpath network. To cover such a large area we have local Area Officers and Inspectors who are responsible for their specific area, usually organised by a number of parishes. They make an invaluable contribution to the work of the Society by reporting on any specific changes, faults, obstructions and condition of PNFS signposts. By getting out and about they not only enjoy the walking but build up an essential understanding of the local issues and needs.
